AbstractAgriculture sector accounted about 33% of total greenhouse gas emissions, ranked second after energy. In Vietnam, agriculture plays a vital role in the economic development contributing 18.14% to the GDP of Vietnam in 2016 with average growth accelerator approximately 4.06% per year from 1986 to 2015. The case study is Dong Thap province which is ranking third in total rice production (3,397 million tons /year, 2016) and aquatic products taking the second place in the whole country. This article presents results of the GHG emissions assessment from agricultural activities in the cultivation (rice, maize, sweet potato) and biomass burning, aquaculture and livestock (manure management, enteric fermentation) by utilizing IPCC method (IPCC, 2006). The results are emissions amount released by four agricultural sectors in 12 districts of Dong Thap in 2017. Cultivation (58%) and straw burning (40.2%) are the two main sources of GHGs in this thesis and rice contributes the highest amount of emissions comparing to maize and sweet potato. Thap Muoi and Cao Lanh districts release the majority of GHGs. Finally, the hourly spatial maps of emissions are made by combination of WCT, GIS and CMAQ model. The thesis also proposes effective solutions for controlling the GHG emissions from paddy fields.
